The MagI3C-FIMM fixed isolated MicroModule from Würth Elektronik has added to the product families of its MagI3C power module. It is only 9mm x 7mm x 3.1mm in size and combines isolated power module and MicroModule choices in an LGA-7 package. Typically, just 8pF serves as the isolation capacitance between the primary and secondary windings. Without any derating, the 1W output power is maintained to an ambient temperature of 100C. With an efficiency of up to 91%, it offers one of the best totally isolated modules in the range.
These power modules have a switching power stage, controller, inductor, and input/output capacitors, making them fully integrated DC-DC converters. Since all of the components, including CIN and COUT, are integrated, it does not require any external circuitry. This enables rapid and simple circuit construction without a knowledge of transformers. It has a compact design, great efficiency, and a wide operating temperature range of 125C. The module offers continuous overvoltage and short-circuit protection up to 3000V.
The module is perfect for industrial electronics applications such as data collecting, test and measurement technologies, providing interfaces and microcontrollers, and others. In addition to minimising ground loops, ground shifts, and noise in the signal channel or sensor systems, it provides functional isolation for overvoltage protection. The low-radiated EMI with tested filter combination, as measured by the manufacturer, is below EN55032 Class B/CISPR-32 limitations. It has been approved in line with the most recent UL standard, UL62368-1.
