The ICC80QSG single-stage PWM controller for flyback topologies has been released by Infineon Technologies AG, expanding its lineup of AC-DC controller ICs. When optimised with CoolMOS P7 SJ MOSFETs, the IC for battery charger applications offers scalable power designs of up to 130W. It is also perfect for applications including adapters, printers, PCs, TVs, set-top boxes, monitors, and audio amplifiers.

The IC gives out a QRMn. Its QRM function includes valley switching DCM in mid- to light-load conditions and CCM prevention. High efficiency and low EMI can be achieved by combining the device with CoolMOS P7 MOSFET devices to enable cost savings on the total BOM: less heatsinks and coils may be needed in flyback designs. Additionally, designs with extremely low power consumption when in sleep mode are made possible by the inbuilt burst mode feature for very modest loads. Additionally, it has a reduced gate driver output voltage in burst mode, which makes it perfect for very low standby requirements under light load or no-load circumstances with impressive standby performance across the whole working range.

The SSR mechanism used by the gadget is great for controlling current during battery charging. It has adjustable maximum on-time that restricts input power and current and provides safe operation under low line circumstances, as well as adjustable on-time mapping at the valley changing location for the needed maximum operational switching frequency. The IC has strong brown-in/brown-out hysteresis that can be configured externally to protect the primary MOSFET by ensuring that it doesn’t overheat even with fewer heatsinks through input undervoltage. The IC contributes to the provision of simple, secure, and reliable AC/DC battery charger designs for a variety of applications together with a full suite of protective features.
