Wide terminal shunt resistors, model LTR10L, have recently been created by ROHM. They strengthen its extensive assortment with two revised general-purpose MCR series shunt resistors, which are designed for a range of applications in the automotive, industrial, and consumer industries (MCR10L and MCR18L). High efficiency operation has become necessary in recent years from the perspective of energy conservation, not only in battery-driven applications like mobile devices and electric vehicles (EVs), but also in consumer and industrial equipment powered by electrical outlets. In order to run devices optimally, it is critical to accurately detect characteristics like current and voltage. Shunt resistors with high precision and high reliability current detection are needed for this. Even smaller shunt resistors are needed, according to manufacturers of applications using increasing board density. The new LTR10L series provides the highest rated power in the market and best-in-class temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) in a small package that is 0508-size (0.5inch 0.8inch) / 1220-size (1.25mm 2.0mm) in order to increase reliability and downsizing.

LTR10L was able to achieve an industry-leading 1W rated power in the 0508-size, which is 88% smaller than competing devices, by improving the resistive element material and using a terminal temperature derating approach. Additionally, best-in-class TCR and anti-sulfuration properties have been attained along with high-accuracy 0.5% resistance tolerance. These characteristics make them the perfect choice for applications that must withstand severe environments, such as telecommunication base stations that need to be highly durable and automotive LED headlamps that require highly accurate current sensing as well as long-term dependability. However, the general-purpose shunt resistors of the MCR10L and MCR18L series enhance their rated power to 0.5W and 0.75W, respectively, above those of the MCR series by utilising a better element structure and materials (0.25W). Smaller size and the same performance are made possible by higher rated power, which aids in product miniaturisation. In order to improve downsizing and reliability while ensuring a long-term reliable supply, ROHM will continue to expand its array of resistors (its founding goods).
