The SymCool Power Module has been introduced by Ideal Power, which is best known for creating and marketing the high efficiency, patented B-TRANTM bidirectional semiconductor power switch. The breakthrough Si B-TRANTM technology from Ideal Power, which boasts an extremely low on-state voltage drop, is the foundation of the bidirectional, double-sided cooling power module. The system’s integration of temperature, Kelvin current, and current-sharing management lowers parasitic impedance and improves security. The package contains a cascode circuit that operates normally off. The SymCoolTM power switch, rated at 1200-V 100-A, meets the market’s demand for solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs) with incredibly low conduction loss by providing greater thermal performance and efficiency. Modules can be paralleled to create a range of high power SSCB ratings for utility, industrial, and military applications.

The SymCoolTM Power Module, according to the manufacturer, was created expressly to allow solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs) to deliver extremely low conduction losses. SSCBs based on B-TRANTM proprietary technology are anticipated to operate orders of magnitude faster than conventional electro-mechanical breakers and to have a smaller form factor and higher efficiency than SSCBs based on standard semiconductor switches. Circuit breakers are essential for controlling the flow of electricity and containing excessive currents brought on by faults in that flow in a variety of applications. Conduction losses must be kept to a minimum since circuit breakers continuously conduct current. Since the SymCoolTM Power Module has much lower conduction losses than IGBTs, it is possible to reduce the energy needed for power network modernization.
